Other Bement Programs: Global Exchange Program

Language Enrichment and Global Exchange
Bement values the idea of helping our students to broaden their global perspectives and the study of language is enriched by real-world opportunities to experience other cultures. Students in seventh through ninth grades have several opportunities to travel abroad, regardless of the language they have chosen to study at school.
For over 26 years, Bement has participated in a student exchange program with, L'Ermitage, a school in Maisons Laffitte, a suburb of Paris. For two weeks in April, students from L'Ermitage stay with a Bement family and attend classes. In June, upper schoolers in grades 7-9 have the option of going to France for three weeks for a trip that includes academics, culture, sight-seeing, and visits to other French cities and towns.
We also have an established relationship with Beijing Xu Beihong Academy in China. During the school year, students studying Chinese communicate with the students at Beijing Xu Beihong via letter exchanges. Our trip to China includes experiencing Chinese traditional culture and art; visiting Chinese middle and high school classrooms; communicating with Chinese students; shopping with paired Chinese friends; tasting delicious Chinese cuisine; as well as traveling to world renowned sites in Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, and Hangzhou (we are extremely excited to add Shanghai and Hangzhou, two famous south China cities, in the 2014 trip)!
Since 2007, our ninth grade class has traveled to the La Suiza Orphanage in the Dominican Republic. In addition to living at the orphanage, our students engage in daily goodwill and service projects while immersing themselves in the Spanish language and Dominican culture.
