Fine Arts: Strings

Students in the upper school have the opportunity to join the string orchestra on violin, viola, cello, or upright bass.  Students meet by grade during arts rotation throughout the week with the full ensemble meeting every Friday.

Repertoire of the string ensemble is as varied as the students who comprise the group. We study renaissance dances, baroque and classical chamber works, highlights of operas, modern compositions from around the world, and perennial movie favorites. Students are encouraged to suggest pieces to study throughout the year.

Beginners are welcome; however, if the student has not had previous playing experience on a string instrument, it is a requirement that they take private lessons, as well as the classes during arts block.
